The wide use of electronic medical records (EMRs) presents the opportunity for: clinicians to improve the care they provide through practice management and quality improvement initiatives, researchers to study the care the public receives, and for patients to take charge in their health care.

This summer learning series session is intended to present an example of big data research in Alberta with a focus on research initiatives drawing data from the Canadian Primary  Care Sentinel Surveillance Network (CPCSSN) as well as how novel and emerging initiatives are providing patients with their data in accessible formats such as ConnectCare.

While this session is focused on big data, the presentations and discussion will not be technical in nature.
