Governance

The CPCRN is comprised of three oversight committees and seven working committees with members drawn from across our network. All members carry out committee work from a servant leader role. The CPCRN supports research projects within pillars of research focused on access to care, integration of care, Indigenous health, and primary care information system. Provincial and territorial Practice-Based Research and Learning Networks carry out research, and the Pan-Canadian Patient Council embeds the patient experience in all CPCRN activities.

Pan-Canadian Patient Council

The Pan-Canadian Patient Council (PPC) brings voice and visibility to the patient experience in primary care and primary care patient-oriented research through the CPCRN. The lived experience and expertise of the PPC is embedded in the governance structure with membership on the Steering Committee, the Executive Committee, the Research Committee and all other Network committees. Through purposeful, active and meaningful engagement, the PPC supports the CPCRN objectives.

Research and Implementation Science Committee

The Research and Implementation Science Committee supports the CPCRN research projects across Canada. Research projects are currently focused in the areas of: Access to Care, Integration of Care, Indigenous Health and the Primary Care Information System. This committee provides an important link between the CPCRN, PBRLNs and ongoing cross-Canada research projects.

Communications and Knowledge Mobilization Committee

The Communications and Knowledge Mobilization (KM) Committee works to support the Network with all communications and knowledge translation and exchange (KTE) initiatives. This committee works closely with the Building Capacity Committee on the planning and implementation of the CPCRN face-to-face events.

Primary Care Information System (PCIS) Committee

The PCIS committee provides expertise and support to the development of methods and approaches toward the secondary use of electronic medical record (EMR) data (sourced from the EMR of PBRLNs), as well as the collection and use of patient reported experience measures (PREMs) and patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) data collected by PBRLNs. Linkage of these data to health services administrative (admin) data held within jurisdictions is a secondary objective. This committee supports information needs of PBRLNs through the development of practice level report templates and provincial/pan-Canadian “use cases” for EMR and PREMs/PROMs data. This committee also supports ongoing dialogue with regards to Indigenous data governance.

Byuilding Capacity Committee

The Building Capacity Committee is responsible for all capacity development initiatives for students, patient partners, clinicians, policymakers and researchers. This committee ensures the CPCRN is building capacity in the areas of learning health systems theory and implementation, Indigenous pathways, equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI), implementation science, and partner engagement (i.e., patient partners, Indigenous communities, etc.). This committee is also responsible for our partnership with TUTOR-PHC (Transdisciplinary Understanding of Research in Primary Health Care), supporting engagement within and across practice-based research and learning networks, and for planning the majority of the CPCRN face-to-face events. This committee oversees a mentorship program, Primary Care Learning Pathway, and Network awards for Network staff and patient partners.

Learning Health System Evaluation Committee

The Learning Health System Evaluation Committee works to evaluate the impact of the CPCRN and the performance of Network components (e.g. research projects, practice-based research and learning network (PBRLN) engagement, data infrastructure, etc). This committee oversees the required funder reporting.

Learning Health System (LHS) Implementation Working Group

The LHS Implementation Working Group works to advance and disseminate knowledge about the LHS. The working group coordinates the CPCRN learning series and facilitates the co-development of LHS tools based on the needs of the PBRLNs. This working group also facilitates a Community of Practice of pan-Canadian PBRLN Directors and staff with the goal of assisting in the creation, growing and expanding PBRLNs.
